Guiding Questions:
What will we be learning in Unit 3? 
Why was the government established in the Articles of Confederation ineffective?

Objectives:
Students will investigate a founding father by researching and creating a Bio Report and scoring at least a 3/4 according to the rubric. 

Students will determine the meaning of words by creating a Word Wall for a Unit 3 vocabulary term and score at least a 3/4 according to the rubric. 


Students will be introduced to and analyze the Articles of Confederation, our first Constitution, by reading and answering guiding questions with at least 80% accuracy. 



Standards:
HSS 8.2.2 - Analyze the Articles of Confederation
RH.6-8.2 - Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source
RH.6-8.4 – Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text
WHST.6-8.9 - Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research
ELD B.6 - Reading closely literary and informational texts and viewing multimedia to determine how meaning is conveyed.

Do Now (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 
Write today's objectives in your own words. What are the activities you will be completing and how do you know whether or not you completed them? 

Whole Group (Voice Level 0) 10 minutes: 
Introduction to Unit 3: Constitution & Hook Activity


Independent (Voice Level 0) 40 minutes: 

Task 1: Founding Fathers Bio Report OR Life and Legacy of... That means you only need to complete one side of the double sided paper!!! Please choose one of the following Founding Fathers! Each of the following Founding Fathers has a short biography and I have also included a link to a website that gives you more information. 



For those of you who are new to O'Donovan this year or do not remember Ms. Nutter's Bio Reports here are detailed instructions that I totally stole borrowed (since I am citing my source, this is not plagiarism) from Ms. Nutter. All hail Brutus.*






Task 2: Unit 3 Word Wall. If you do this digitally, please share with ecobb@blastla.org. 

Here are the terms and here is the rubric. 

At the end of this station, reflect on the objective you just worked to complete. On your paper you need to write whether or not you met the objective AND how you know this. For example, "Yes I met this objective because I completed all five tabs for the article, summarized everything including the dig deeper, and I scored 88% on the activity!" 

Collaborative (Voice Level .5 - 1) 40 minutes: 


Articles of Confederation Jigsaw. In your table groups, read the sources and answer the guiding questions. 



At the end of this station, reflect on the objective you just worked to complete. On your paper you need to write whether or not you met the objective AND how you know this. For example, "Yes, I met the objective because I was able to annotate and I am confident I answered at least 8 of the 9 questions correctly." 

Exit Ticket (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 
 Now that we know what was wrong with the Articles of Confederation, make a prediction. What do you think the Constitution is going to include? 

Homework: 
Complete your Unit 3 Word Wall and your Bio Report (hopefully you were able to finish this in the 40 minutes of Independent Station though...)
