Guiding Question:
How did the Texan Revolution impact Westward Expansion?


Objectives:
Collaborative: Students will learn about the Texas War for Independence by reading a source collaboratively in their groups and participating in a snowball discussion with a score of at least 3/4 according to the rubric. 

Independent: Students will watch a video about the Texas War for Independence and answer guiding questions with at least 80% accuracy. 



Standards:
8.8.6 - Describe the Texas War for Independence and the Mexican-American War including territorial settlements, the aftermath of the wars, and the effects the wars had on the lives of Americans, including Mexican Americans today.
CCRA.R.1 – Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
ELD A.1 - Exchanging information and ideas with others.

Do Now (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 
On your objective tracker, dissect the objectives you will be working to complete for today. Be prepared to explain the objectives in your own words if I call on you.

Independent (Voice Level 0) 25 minutes:




Task 2: Watch this video to gain a better understanding of the Texas Revolution & the Western landscape before the Mexican-American war. 

Period 1, 3, & 5: Please complete the Oregon Trail Webquest in Google Classroom! This is the assignment you missed since I was sick on Thursday. It is due for you by Thursday. 

Early Finishers: Play Free Rice, read an article on NewsELA, complete any missing assignments, contemplate the meaning of life. 

At the end of this station, complete the "next steps" portion for that station's objective. If you met the objective, write "none" in that box. 

Collaborative (Voice Level .5 - 1) 25 minutes: 
Step 1: Read the source on the Texas Revolution collaboratively as a group. 
Step 2: Write what you think the most important effect of the Texas Revolution was on your 1/4 sheet of paper. 
Step 3: Follow the "snowball discussion" protocol at your table groups first with your elbow partner. I will signal when it's time to move to whole table and then again when it's time to combine table groups. 


At the end of this station, complete the "next steps" portion for that station's objective. If you met the objective, write "none" in that box. 

Exit Ticket (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 
Flip to the calendar section of your Objective Tracker. Add a + for each objective you completed for today and a - for objectives you were not able to complete. 

Homework: 
Period 1, 3, & 5: Since I wasn't here on Thursday, you need to complete the Oregon Trail Webquest that is currently in Google Classroom. I am giving you until this Thursday/Friday to complete this assignment. It should not take you more than 30 minutes and if you need me to stay after school, let me know.
