What was life in the colonies like?
How did settlement and colonization change North America?


Objectives:
Collaborative: Students will exhibit their knowledge of settlement and colonization by creating a brochure for the 13 English colonies and scoring at least a 3/4 according to the rubric.
Standards:
CA HSS 8.1 Students will understand the major events preceding the founding of the nation. 

W.8.4 - Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience. 

RI.8.4 - Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text. 


ELD C.10 - Writing informational texts to present ideas and information.

Do Now (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 


Objective form. Write down today's objectives in your own words. What are the activities you will be completing? How do you know whether or not you were successful?

Whole Group (Voice Level 0) 30 minutes: 
Task 1: Recap of Unit 1: Settlement and Colonization - Group Quiz
Task 2: Read about life in the colonies together. 


Whole Class Collaborative (Voice Level .5 - 1) 60 minutes: 

We will be working on a pamphlet for England's Colonies in North America. A template has been placed on your table along with the rubric.

Finish your colonies pamphlet, it is due Monday/Tuesday and will be two separate summative grades.
