Guiding Question:
How did technological advancements change life in the North?


Objectives:
Collaborative: By the end of the period, students will understand the influence of new technology on the North during the nineteenth century by completing a Webquest in groups with at least 80% accuracy. 

Independent: By the end of the period, s
tudents will be able to increase their lexile levels by completing an Achieve Article about the telegraph, including all summaries, with a score of at least 75% on the activity.

8.6.1. Discuss the influence of industrialization and technological developments on the North
CCRA.R.1 – Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.

Do Now (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 
- On your objective tracker, dissect the objectives you will be working to complete for today. Be prepared to explain the objectives in your own words if I call on you.

Task 1: Achieve3000, "Words by Wire!" You need to complete the first 4 tabs for this article. 

- You only need to summarize paragraphs that are more than two sentences! You may write your summaries as bullet points for my class. 

- Achieve articles are summative grades. You cannot get higher than an NP if you did not summarize.  In order to complete a "makeup Achieve" you need to also complete the first 4 tabs and the summaries on your makeup article as well. 

Task 2: Watch CNN10 and complete the assignment in Google Classroom. 

Early Finishers: Complete any missing or makeup work, play Free Rice, read an article on NewsELA, read a book, contemplate the meaning of life, or watch this documentary about building the Transcontinental Railroad. 


Collaborative (Voice Level .5 - 1) 45 minutes: 
Task 2: Translate your Morse Code clues as a group
Task 3: Use your clues to go to the correct sources for your questions using this website. 
Task 4: Answer the questions in your table groups. 

Exit Ticket (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 
Reflect on your objective for the day.

Homework: 
If you are here today, then you have none! You completed the Spring Break packet as long as you did the following: 
1. Finished your Achieve article with a score of at least 75% on the activity. 
2. Completed your CNN10 assignment in google classroom 
3. Completed your technological developments Webquest.
