Guiding Question: 

In what ways did Native American culture differ by region? 

Objectives:

Collaborative: Students will create and analyze a map of the United States and various Native American tribes by identifying the location of tribes, key landmarks, and answering guiding questions with at least 80% accuracy. 

Independent: Students will investigate the earliest americans by reading and answering questions with at least 80% accuracy.

CA HSS 8.1 – Students understand the major events preceding the founding of the nation and relate their significant to the development of American constitutional democracy.

CCRA.R.1 – Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it

In your notebook, answer the following question: What do you already know about Native Americans? What is one thing you want to know about Native Americans?

Early Finisher? You can play some US History trivia, or if you brought your own headphones you can watch this video (and this video only!) to get a jump start on what we are learning about Tuesday-Wednesday. 

Collaborative (Voice Level .5) 40 minutes:

At collaborative station you will work on completing a map and map analysis questions. In order to complete this map you have several references that you need to look at. 

Here is the collection of maps you will need to complete yours. 

• You do not need to be able to read the last map in the PDF, that is just to give you an idea of how many tribes there are in the US. However, you DO need to be able to read "Tribes of the Indian Nation." If you cannot read it on the PDF, here is a link to a bigger version: Tribes of the Indian Nations Map
