Guiding Question:
What are the jobs and responsibilities of the executive and legislative branches


Objectives:

Students will work to increase their Lexile levels by determining the central ideas of an Achieve article about Geraldine Ferraro, completing the first four tabs, and scoring at least 75% on the activity. 

Students will review the duties of the legislative and executive branches by reading in their small groups and answering guiding questions with at least 80% accuracy.


Standards:
HSS.8.2.6 - Enumerate the powers of government set forth in the Constitution.
RH.6-8.2 - Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source
ELD B.6 - Read closely to determine how meaning is made.

Do Now (Voice Level 0) 2 minutes: 
Take out any homework that you need to turn in (Winter Packet and/or Current Events.) 

Whole Group (Voice Level 0) 15 minutes: 
 - Go over new objective tracking system. 
- Semester 1 Review Slides: The first 100 years in 5 minutes. 

Independent (Voice Level 0) 40 minutes: 

Task 1: Achieve3000, "Saying Goodbye to a Pioneer" You need to complete the first 4 tabs for this article. 

- You only need to summarize paragraphs that are more than two sentences! You may write your summaries as bullet points for my class. 

- Achieve articles are summative grades. You cannot get higher than an NP if you did not summarize.  In order to complete a "makeup Achieve" you need to also complete the first 4 tabs and the summaries on your makeup article as well. 

Task 2: Watch CNN Student News and generate four questions that you have as you watch the video. This can be completed on a piece of paper or a google doc and shared with me at ecobb@blastla.org

Early Finishers: Go to CNN, NewsELA, Free Rice, work on your PBL Action Plan, or complete any makeup work. 


At the end of this station, complete the "next steps" portion for that station's objective. If you met the objective, write "none" in that box. 

Collaborative (Voice Level .5 - 1) 40 minutes: 
The Roles and Responsibilities of Government jigsaw reading and questions. 


Early Finishers: Did you not do your Winter Packet? You're failing my class now :( Do it.
