Guiding Question:
In what ways did Native American cultures differ by region?
Objectives:
Students will investigate Native Americans in three separate regions of the United States by reading and answering guiding questions with at least 80% accuracy.
Students will create and analyze a map of the United States and various Native American tribes by identifying the location of various tribes, key landmarks, and answering guiding questions with at least 80% accuracy.
Students will read informational texts and view multimedia to determine how meaning is made by reading, analyzing maps, and answering guiding questions with at least 80% accuracy.

Intro lecture for Unit 1: Settlement and Colonization. We will take a very brief look at the unit and introduce our essential question, "In what ways did European settlement change North America?"

At collaborative station you will work on completing a map and map analysis questions. In order to complete this map you have several references that you need to look at.
- You do not need to be able to read the last map in the PDF, that is just to give you an idea of how many tribes there are in the US. Why do Native American tribes from different regions of the United States have different cultures? In other words, why do you think different tribes have different religious beliefs, clothing, homes, and tools?
Homework:
Create a word wall for a Unit 1 vocabulary word. Due Wednesday when you walk into class. Here is a word wall template as well as a rubric for completing a word wall. You may complete the word wall digitally and share with Ms. Cobb or you may do it on a piece of white paper.
