Guiding Question: 
To what extent did the Emancipation Proclamation free the slaves?

Collaborative: Students will understand the Emancipation Proclamation by reading and answering questions with at least 80% accuracy.

8.10.4 - Discuss Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and his significant writings and speeches and their relationship to the Declaration of Independence, such as his “House Divided” speech (1858), Gettysburg Address (1863), Emancipation Proclamation (1863), and inaugural addresses (1861 and 1865).

Emancipation Proclamation Intro

Whole Class (Voice Level 0) 45 Minutes: 
Step 1: Read the excerpt from Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation together as a class
Step 2: Work together with your group to answer the Evidence Based Selected Response-style questions about the text 
Step 3: Using text evidence, on your paper answer the question, "To what extent did the Emancipation Proclamation free the slaves?" in CER format.
