Guiding Questions:
What reasons did the colonists have for wanting independence from England?

Objectives:
Students will work to increase their lexiles by reading an article on the history of our flag, summarizing, and completing the activity with a score of at least 75% 

Students will analyze the Stamp and Quartering Acts by reading and annotating sources and answering questions with at least 80% accuracy. 



Standards:
CA HSS.8.1 - Understand the major events preceding the founding of the nation. 

RH.6-8.22 - Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source

RH.6-8.4 - Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text

WHST.6-8.9 - Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis and reflection

ELD B.6 - Reading closely literary and informational texts and viewing multimedia to determine how meaning is conveyed.


Do Now (Voice Level 0) 7 minutes: 
Take out your colonies brochures, write your homework in your agendas and then on a half sheet of paper please write the objectives for today in your own words. What are the activities you will be completing? How will you know that you are successful? 

Whole Group (Voice Level 0) 15 minutes: 
Pear Deck presentation for Unit 2. You will be expected to respond to questions throughout the presentation, so be prepared! 

Independent (Voice Level 0) 40 minutes: 

Task 1: Achieve3000, "Every Flag Has a Story" You need to complete all 5 tabs for this article. 

- You only need to summarize paragraphs that are more than two sentences! You may write your summaries as bullet points for my class. 

- Your thought question answer only needs to be 3-4 sentences. 

- Achieve articles are summative grades. You cannot get higher than an NP if you did not summarize. Yes you need to summarize the Dig Deeper section! In order to complete a "makeup Achieve" you need to also complete all 5 tabs and the summaries on your makeup article as well. 

Task 2: Unit 2 Word Wall. Here is a list of the vocabulary terms and here is a template/rubric for your Word Wall. You can complete your Word Wall digitally and share it with me (ecobb@blastla.org) or you may complete it on a piece of paper. 

Collaborative (Voice Level .5 - 1) 40 minutes: 
We will be annotating primary and secondary source documents and answering questions together on the Stamp and Quartering Acts. 



Exit Ticket (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 
Objective self-reflection form. Reflect on your mastery of the objectives for today. Were you able to meet them, why or why not? 

Homework: 
Complete your Unit 2 Word Wall! Here is a list of the vocabulary terms and here is a template/rubric for your Word Wall. You can complete your Word Wall digitally and share it with me (ecobb@blastla.org) or you may complete it on a piece of paper.
