Guiding Questions:
Was the "Boston Massacre" actually a massacre? 


Objectives:
Students will investigate the Boston Massacre by reading a secondary source and eyewitness accounts and answering guiding questions with at least 80% accuracy. 

Students will collect evidence regarding the Townshend Acts and the Boston Massacre by completing a scavenger hunt in their TCI text with at least 80% accuracy. 


Students will analyze the causes of the Revolution by watching a BrainPop video and scoring at least an 8/10 on the quiz.

CA HSS.8.1 - Understand the major events preceding the founding of the nation.

RH.6-8.2 - Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source

WHST.6-8.9 - Draw evidence from informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research

ELD B.6 - Reading closely literary and informational texts and viewing multimedia to determine how meaning is conveyed.



Do Now (Voice Level 0) 5 minutes: 
Re-write today's objectives in your own words. What are the activities you will be completing and how will you know whether or not you met today's objectives? 

Whole Group (Voice Level 0) 10 minutes: 

Introduction to the Townshend Acts and Boston Massacre

Independent (Voice Level 0) 40 minutes: 
Task 1: TCI scavenger hunt (in google classroom) 

Task 2: Watch this brainpop video on the causes of the American Revolution.  After you watch the video, you need to take the quiz and e-mail the results to ecobb@blastla.org Make sure to include your first and last name when you send the quiz!  Username is 123dog and password is 123cat.


Early Finishers: Complete any missing work (including Achieve articles, another Word Wall for Unit 2, read silently, or watch this video. 

At the end of this station, you will be asked to reflect on the two objectives you were supposed to have completed. On your the backside of your Do Now: Did you meet the objectives? How do you know that you met the objective (tell me specifically! I will not accept "Yes, I met the objective.")? If you did not meet the objective, what are you going to do to make sure that you meet it before next class? 

Collaborative (Voice Level .5 - 1) 40 minutes: 
We will be completing jigsaw readings of the Boston Massacre, including eyewitness accounts. You will need to work with your group to answer the questions. 




Early Finishers: Read an article on NewsELA or  watch this video
